BHP Billiton Science Awards Recognised In Prime Minister's Community Business Partnership Awards
11 April 2008
BHP Billiton, together with the CSIRO and the Australian Science Teachers' Association, have been congratulated for their longstanding support for the BHP Billiton Science Awards program in the Australian Prime Minister's Community Business Partnerships Awards. The partnership won the Longevity category.
The BHP Billiton Science Awards have been the premier national school student science research and science teacher awards for 27 years with over 20,000 students participating to date.
At the presentation of the 2008 Science Awards earlier this year, Don Argus, Chairman BHP Billiton, outlined how the Science Awards aligns with the company's business objectives.
"It really gets down to the fact that the growth of our global business relies very heavily on research and technology. Supporting the development of our up-and-coming young researchers is ultimately in our best interests," he said.
CSIRO and BHP Billiton have been strong partners in research for decades. The BHP Billiton Science Awards partnership provides another link between the two organisations. The experience of implementing the program over a long period of time has resulted in a robust relationship and creative engagement between the partners, with the key outcome being a program which has maintained its position as the country's premier awards.
